Everything we do is Self Defense! We are one of only a handful of schools in the State of Florida certified by the Law Enforcement Tactical Training Institute (based out of Ohio) to teach defensive tactics and combatives. Many of our students, past and present, have been Law Enforcement Officers, Corrections Officers and/or Security Personnel. In fact our headmaster, Kaiso Bret Gordon, currently works in private security and Executive Protection (bodyguarding). Our training is geared to be effective in that environment, based on real world experience.

While our program is based in classical martial arts, we pride ourselves on offering the most realistic self defense training around! All of our classes are designed to push the student physically, mentally and psychologically in order to address what really happens during an attack. We teach not only physical techniques and counter attacks, but how to control and overcome the body's natural responses to being attacked (increased heart rate, adrenaline surge, etc.). Keep in mind that we are not everything to everyone, and that's how we like it. We hold ourselves and our students to very high standards, and train at an intense level. If you want to learn how to survive, we are the school for you!

So What Arts Do We Teach?

Our main style, San Budo Sogo Bugei, is a modern interpretation of authentic Japanese and Okinawan warrior arts with an emphasis on realistic self defense. The system is broken down into three sub-styles that each specialize in a specific area of training, and students engage in the study of traditional kata, Okinawan weaponry (Kobudo), pressure point striking, joint manipulation and throwing. In addition to traditional-style martial arts, San Budo offers a complete self defense curriculum designed to address the realities of the modern world, teaching how to defend against both empty-handed attacks and various weapons (gun, knife, etc.). Our unique training methods are designed to ensure maximum efficiency so that all of our students can walk with the confidence they deserve in any atmosphere! Our students also learn American Yoshinkan Aiki Jujutsu. The predecessor to Aikido, Aiki Jujutsu teaches combative techniques using joint manipulation and throwing by following the principles of non-resistance, off-balancing and structural compromise to subdue an attacker. The art of Aiki Jujutsu can be traced back to Minamoto Yoshimitsu (1045-1127)! As one of the foundation arts of San Budo, American Yoshinkan is taught simultaneously in its entirety so that students may understand the evolution of various techniques and preserve their traditional foundation. In addition to empty-handed martial arts, as part of American Yoshinkan students also learn traditional Japanese swordsmanship (Iaijutsu and Kenjutsu). To provide a well-rounded training experience covering all ranges of self protection, our program also includes Judo & Grappling classes. Judo was founded in 1882 by Kano Jigoro and while it has become an Olympic sport, we preserve traditional Kodokan Judo as a self defense system. Our school is an official branch of the Kontei Judo Club based out of Columbus, OH. Focusing on both throwing techniques and ground fighting, our Judo class helps complete the full spectrum of self defense training we offer.
Our head instructor, Bret Gordon, currently holds a 2nd Dan with the US Traditional Kodokan Judo Association as well as a Blue Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
