Most commonly known as an Olympic sport, the complete art of Kodokan Judo encompasses much more than what's currently allowed in competition. Founded by Kano Jigoro, Kodokan Judo consists of striking techniques, throws, take downs, and grappling techniques. Our training methods equally emphasize kata (forms), randori (free sparring), and tandoku renshu (solo practice), with an extra focus on self defense applications. Our school is a branch of the Kontei Judo Club, based out of Columbus, Ohio.

Students may enroll in Kodokan Judo independently, or as part of our all-inclusive self defense program encompassing training in several martial arts.

Our school is a proud member of the US Traditional Kodokan Judo Association. The USATKJ serves as the national governing body of International Traditional Kodokan Judo. All students have the option of having their black belt ranks certified by the USATKJ. The USATKJ is different from other Judo organizations in that they are a non-political organization dedicated to "jita kyoei," the principle of mutual benefit described by Kano sensei. Their mission is to serve their members and provide them with opportunities for training and advancement, as well as instructor support and services to promote technical excellence.
We are also the Florida State Headquarters of the Seikan Judo & Judo Association. Like the USATKJ, the SJJA is committed to preserving the art of Traditional Kodokan Judo as a complete martial art, without an overwhelming emphasis on competition. The essence of this system Kano sensei expressed in the axiom "maximum efficient use of energy", a concept he considered both a cornerstone of martial arts and a principle useful in many aspects of life.
